How do I renew books or other Library items?
Here are the steps needed to renew library items. Please note, not all items can be renewed.
Answer
You can extend the due date for library items, like books, using one of the following renew options.
Option 1: Renew through your Online Library Account
Go to My Library Account which is also found on the Library Services website (links open in a new window).
- Login with your StarID and password.
- On the Overview tab, click the Renew All link to extend the due dates of eligible items
Or
To renew specific items, go to the Loans tab. Click the Renew link for each item. - If successful, the entry will say Renewed and the Due date will display the new date and time the item is due.
Or
If item cannot be renewed, an explanatory message will appear. You need to physically bring the item back to Memorial Library. If no one has requested the item, you may be able to borrow it again.
If you have questions, call the Circulation Desk at 507-389-5931.
Option 2: Renew by Email
You can also that due dates be extended by sending an email to msulibrary@mnsu.edu or by replying to a MSU Library Services courtesy or overdue email message. Another way you can renew items is by submitting an email renewal request. Requests must include your name, MavCard barcode or Tech ID, and the item barcodes of the items you wish to renew.
Option 3: Renew Materials in Person
With your MavCard, visit the Circulation Desk within Memorial Library’s entrance and ask staff to renew your library materials. You do not need to bring the items with you, unless they are already overdue.

You can also renew a book or other items borrowed from a different library via interlibrary loan from your My Library Account.
If you have any questions about renewals or your account, contact a librarian.
