What type of boxes are required for transfer to the University Records Center?

From our Records Center Transfer page, we have the following information regarding boxes:

Please note that the University Records Center requires all transferred records to be filed in proper records storage boxes. Dimensions must be no larger than 12 x 10 ¼ x 15 ¼. Suitable boxes (often referred to as Bankers Boxes) for the MSU University Records Center are available for purchase. Transfers in oversize boxes (any box over the dimensions of 12” x 10 ¼” x 15 ¼”) or unapproved boxes, improperly taped, or improperly marked, may be deemed unsuitable for pick-up and transfer to the University Records Center.

The transferring department must purchase their own boxes. You can usually purchase them in cases of 12 and they arrive flat. There are instructions on the box detailing proper assembly.  Here’s an example of approved boxes:
